FAQ
We thank you for being curious! If you don’t see the answer to your question here, please feel free to contact us by email. We will do our best to answer your questions. As with everything on our site, the FAQ section is a work-in-progress.
Q: Who the hell are you?
A: I’m Krista.
Q: Who’s behind this whole operation?
A: Please visit the “About” section for more information about me and for other places to interact with me.
Q: Who’s in charge of the photography?
A: That would be me. I have no idea how to use a camera, so don’t even bother asking me questions. I just push the button when I see what I like and then re-size it in Photoshop, basically.
Q: Can I use one of your photos on my site?
A: For the time being, not without my permission, please. It makes me feel weird.
Q: What’s with the quotes?
A: My posts begin with a quote from someone I love. Whether it be an author, a musician, a poet, a fictional character, a comedian, a philosopher, or an artist, the quotes will always have relevance to the post they are in, yet you will never see a quote from a chef. Not because I don’t love chefs (because clearly, I do!), but because I want to show that food and drink are common to us all, no matter who, or what, we may be. I believe that this is a powerful notion to consider because you don’t need to be a chef to consider it. You just have to eat sometimes, and care about it sometimes. If you have only that, then you will begin to ask some very important questions.
Q: I would like to be able to just print the recipes without the photos or your various ramblings. How can I do that?
A: I’ve had a “Printer Friendly” button added to each post. I am working on making it better.
Q: You write a lot about your love of music. What music inspires you to cook?
A: I love this question. Keep asking it, because the answer is always changing. I think music is so multi-sensical, just like cooking. I’ve played instruments and studied music all my life. My Mother sings opera and plays classical piano, and has forever and ever and ever. My Father loved music of the rock variety and played guitar and bass. I learned about The Beatles & Jimi Hendrix & The Doors from him. My sister has a kick-ass singing voice that she under-uses. And I grew up playing classical piano. I now study classical & improvisational cello under an incredible teacher. I have always been into music, ever since I was super young. I’m really into electronic music, Krautrock, new wave, and disco, and honestly, I’m really a sucker for the classical stuff.
I’d say that Bach’s “Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major” is about the most inspirational piece of music ever, which is why it’s so universal. It gets at the guts of every person that hears it, in one way or another.
When I think about cooking in my weird little girly mind, I see the video for Au Revoir Simone’s “Sad Song.” What can I say? I like cookies, dresses, balloons, and dancing.
I think CAN is the coolest band ever to walk the Earth and it’s impossible to dislike them.
